Tennis Nook

Tennis is racquet sport played between either two players ("singles") or two teams of two players ("doubles). Players use a stringed racquet to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. Originating in England in the late 19th Century, the game first spread through the English-speaking nations, particularly among the upper class.

Tennis is now an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and by all ages and both sexes in nearly every country in the world. It's rules have remained remarkably unchanged since the 1920's making it relatively easy to learn. Along with millions of players, tens of millions of people watch tennis as a spectator sport, particularly the four Grand Slam tournaments consisting of the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open.

There are three main types of tennis courts depending on the materials used for the court surface. There are clay courts, grass courts and hardcourts--which could be concrete, coated asphalt or wooden gymnasium floors. Each surface provides a difference in the speed and the bounce of the ball affecting the type of shots and strategies used by individual players.

This site is dedicated to all things tennis, from equipment and apparel to tennis resorts and tournament tickets. If you would like interesting and valuable information about this wonderful recreational sport, take a couple of minutes and browse TennisNook.com.
